The Personal Distribution
Terminal is designed to provide a self-contained free-standing or
stand-alone enclosure for easy placement wherever office personnel
require convenient access to building services. The placement of this
device may be in the vicinity of a standard desk or other workstations,
or wherever people congregate (see Fig. 1.3). The occupants have
individual control over airflow for total personal comfort. The
enclosure is constructed to provide displacement ventilation to the
surrounding area for greater indoor air quality and reduced energy
consumption. Incorporated into the enclosure are other services required
in the modern office, such as electricity, both constant and
interruptible, communication terminals and internet connections. The
results of this innovative concept are elimination of floor and wall
grilles for better esthetics and easier housekeeping, substantial energy
savings based on individual control of personal air supply, and
displacement ventilation permitting higher operating temperatures. The
overall result is a simple installation of the terminal for cleaner air,
greater comfort, much lower energy consumption, easy relocation and
sustainability, and less expensive construction.
