[8] SYSTEM DESIGN

Fig. 8.1

This APACS system illustration shows various Argon air outlets designed to meet all needs of a total air conditioning system.  The Floor Air Terminal can be supplied with heat to cover window and wall heat loss.  The illustration shows how particles lighter than air, such as bacteria, mold, etc., are carried away and not recirculated, creating a cleaner environment.

 APACS SYSTEM DESIGN

  • Air distribution via access floor plenum [A - Fig. 4]
  • Little or no distribution ductwork
  • Underfloor fans draw supply air from plenum [B - Fig. 4]
  • Near zero pressure (eliminates leakage losses)[Click for more info]
  • Conditioned room air outlets in furniture or partitions
  • Individual personal comfort control and simultaneous thermostatic space control
  • Personal air flow adjustable from zero to maximum without affecting total air flow to space or other occupants
  • Air terminals appropriate for common areas
  • Air handlers and refrigeration by others
  • See APACS Products for various configurations

INSTALLATION

Components

Personal air terminals

Clean supply air controlled by the occupant for continuous personal comfort control by means of a simple manual damper

Room air outlets

Mounted in furniture, on side walls or in the floor to maintain the overall temperature in the space controlled by thermostats

Fans

Small, specially designed, extra quiet and durable (100,000 hours) with sealed ball bearings and no maintenance, located under access floor to draw conditioned air from underfloor plenum; fans eliminate pressurization balancing problems and leakage losses

Access floor (by others)

No distribution ductwork is required
